Ecstasy Addiction in Delray Beach

Originally developed for us as an appetite suppressant, ecstasy was never widely used for this purpose due to its hallucinogenic properties.  For a short time in the 1960s, ecstasy was used as treatment for some types of mental illness, however, using the drug for this purpose only made patients worse.

By the time the 1980s rolled around, ecstasy’s hallucinogenic effects were well known and it was being used by people part of the nightclub scene.  Today it is still commonly used by those who partake in clubbing and “raves” and has the ambiguous distinction of being known as the #1 club drug being abused by college students.  Knowing this, it is easy to see why ecstasy addiction in Delray Beach is becoming increasingly popular.

Regardless of how one refers to the drug, ecstasy can be taken in pill, tablet or capsule form and in some cases it is injected.  Although not physically addictive in the same way cocaine, heroin or nicotine is, many users become addicted to the emotional state they receive while high on the drug.

Frequent ecstasy use increases one’s tolerance rapidly leading to increasingly higher doses being needed to reach a high acceptable to the user.  The more you use ecstasy, the less you feel euphoria and instead, the speedy amphetamine buzz takes over.

Regular use of ecstasy can lead to poor health as the person may not be eating regularly enough seeing how it acts as an appetite suppressant.  Use of ecstasy can also interfere with an individual’s sleeping patterns.  Because of this, his or her immune system can become run down limiting their ability to fight off common infections.  There is also evidence that longer term, regular use of ecstasy can lead to memory impairment.

The Delray Center for Healing offers those struggling with ecstasy addiction a plan suited to your individual needs.  Be it inpatient or outpatient treatment, our detox facility allows you to decide what is best for you.
