Benzodiazepine Addiction in Delray Beach

Benzodiazepines are psychoactive drugs that affect the part of the brain that results in sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant action.  As a result, these properties make Benzodiazepines helpful in treating anxiety, insomnia, muscle spasms, etc.  However, tolerance to Benzodiazepines can happen and, as a result, both physical and psychological dependence can occur.  Benzodiazepine addiction in Delray Beach as well as the rest of the United States has been a growing concern since 2002.  According to studies conducted by the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), admissions to treatment facilities helping those with a Benzodiazepine addiction increased 79% from 1992 to 2002.

Tolerance to Benzodiazepines occurs and upon cessation, one will experience withdrawal symptoms which can lead to Benzodiazepines being taken for a longer period of time.  Physical dependence develops faster in those taking higher potency Benzodiazepines than it does in those taking lower potency Benzodiazepines.
