Anxiety Disorder Outpatient Treatment

Living With an Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorders are very common conditions and many do not realize how disabling they can be. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder makes everyday life arduous and difficult to enjoy. Panic Disorders leads to a life of fear and negative anticipation. This can isolate an individual to the perceived safety of their room. Many of the long-term problems with Anxiety Disorders have to due with incomplete treatment responses, as well as conditioned, fear-based patterns of behavior and panic relapses. Incomplete treatment refers to when an individual gets partially better, but not fully better.

Anything short of a 100% complete response leaves the individual much more vulnerable to an anxiety relapse. Longer-term outpatient anxiety treatment is where the 100% response is usually reached and then preserved. Sustainable happiness and effective stress management is the desired endpoint. The new skills and healthy habits patients learn during the higher levels of care are in full use at this stage. The behaviors that get you well will also keep you well.

Long-Term Recovery is Our Primary Goal

Continuity of care with the same doctor, therapist and other treatment providers is essential to achieving this goal. Continuity of care is the other critical benefit of outpatient-based care. The unavoidable interruption of treatment that occurs at the end of an intensive inpatient stay greatly limits the depth of therapy that can be reached. Outpatient therapy and anxiety treatment don’t have the same external time restrictions.

The transition from a program down to the basic individual and group therapy is actually very easy when the path of continuity is available. The frequency of appointments and groups are scalable over time depending on the progress made by the client. The patient greatly benefits from preserving a long-term therapeutic relationship with the same therapist with whom they started their treatment. The same element of continuity exists with the group therapy, again adding the long-term depth to the therapy content.

Studies have demonstrated that the greatest single factor that will predict lasting mental health recovery is the length of engagement with a particular treatment system. The anxiety treatment and care provided at the Delray Center is designed to be both convenient and affordable in a manner that is sustainable.
