For many years, cigarette smoking has been one of the leading causes of preventable disease and premature death throughout the world. On average, about 435,000 people in the United States die prematurely from smoking-related diseases every year. Cigarette smoking is so prevalent and so dangerous that it is the cause behind one in every five deaths. Alternate forms of nicotine consumption, such as e-cigarettes and chewable tobacco, only increase the number of nicotine-related fatalities.
Part of what makes cigarette smoking so deadly is how addictive nicotine is, and how exceedingly difficult it is to quit smoking. Approximately 80% of people who attempt to quit smoking on their own return to it within a month. Only 3% of smokers quit successfully each year. Even with the abundance of smoking cessation products available, successfully quitting seldom happens. The dire need for a more effective means of smoking cessation has led the Delray Center for Healing to develop a comprehensive outpatient program specifically for smoking cessation.
The outpatient smoking cessation program at the Delray Center is designed for those who wish to quit smoking but have been unable to do so in the past. We offer a number of outpatient services for nicotine addiction, which can be put together in different combinations to help individuals stop smoking or using other harmful nicotine products. Any prospective patient interested in quitting smoking or other nicotine products should contact our office to schedule an initial evaluation with one of our medical providers. Based on your evaluation, your doctor will recommend the appropriate combinations of therapies to help stop smoking and remain abstinent from nicotine. If you have tried and failed to stop smoking in the past, then you are an ideal candidate for our smoking cessation program. In the course of a few weeks, chronic smokers have found they were able to quit smoking and remain abstinent long term.
