Cutting edge methods that have been developed that allow for an accelerated completion of opiate withdrawal. Certain medication combinations are capable of inducing withdrawal symptoms that can be resolved in a matter of 1 to 2 days on an outpatient basis. This is what is referred to as ultra rapid outpatient detox. The specific variation engineered by Dr. Rodriguez is called the Rodriguez Method of Opiate Detox, also known as the RMOD.
The benefits of this form of opiate detox include a much more rapid resolution of withdrawal symptoms, a more complete resolution of withdrawal symptoms with substantially diminished post-acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS), minimal time off from work required, a very high margin of safety when conducted without anesthesia, and greater cost effectiveness.
Rapid outpatient detox with the RMOD is available for patients coming off of opioids such as heroin, oxymorphone (Dilaudid), oxycodone (Oxycontin, Roxicodone), methadone, fentanyl (Duragesic, Actiq), carfentanyl, meperidine (Demerol ), morphine, hydrocodone (Lorcet, Lortab, Norco), codeine, tramadol (Ultram), buprenorphine (Buprenex, Subutex, Suboxone), and nalbuphine (Nubain), Ultracet). This technique cannot be used if the patient is also withdrawing from alcohol, benzodiazepines or barbiturates. This method is not viable for all patients. All potential candidates are carefully screened by the physician to determine appropriateness for the treatment. Appointments are available at convenient times both before and after common working hours. This usually allows patients to undergo outpatient detox while missing little to no work.
