OCD Partial Hospitalization Program

The Delray Center for Healing offers multiple levels of care for individuals struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Of these levels of care, the most comprehensive and clinical intensive is our partial hospitalization program (PHP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, with or without co-occurring mental health issues. The OCD partial hospitalization program provides highly structured, clinically rigorous full time day-treatment for OCD.

Symptoms of OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental health condition where individuals experience recurrent obsessions, compulsions, or both. With OCD, the obsessions manifest as intrusive, unwanted thoughts, feelings, or urges. Individuals with OCD may have obsessive fears, such as of dying, contracting germs, or somehow otherwise being contaminated. They may also possess an obsessive fixation with order, cleanliness, or symmetry.

The overwhelming nature of these obsessions fuel the development of compulsive behaviors or tendencies in people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Compulsions are ritualized actions, that are meant to be compensatory and to ease the mental distress brought on by obsessive thinking. For example, someone with OCD who suffers from a fear of sickness will engage in a series of rituals to minimize the risk of infection, by obsessively cleaning or washing, or by avoiding touching surfaces.

Ultimately, no compulsive behaviors can completely negate the obsessive thoughts, so OCD sufferers become trapped in a vicious cycle that continues to escalate over time. Left untreated, obsessions and compulsions can consume several hours each day, making normal functioning near impossible. Persons with OCD are at higher risk of dying from suicide, or developing a second mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. Luckily, there are treatments available that can help with OCD, including behavioral therapies such as CBT & DBT, and certain antidepressant medications. However, for individuals with severe OCD, these approaches may not be enough. As a result, the Delray Center for Healing has developed a comprehensive outpatient program for treatment-resistant Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Our Approach to Treating OCD

The OCD partial hospitalization program (PHP) at the Delray Center is a full-time day treatment program consisting of over 40 hours of clinical services per week. The program covers all bases of treatment, including psychiatry & medication management, individual & group therapy, and holistic services designed to improve both physical and mental health. Every program is tailored to the client’s individualized needs, but most treatment plans include:

  • Psychiatry & medication management
  • Individual process therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Case management & care support
  • Yoga
  • Acupuncture & massage therapy
  • Nutritional therapy
  • Neurofeedback therapy
  • Vitamin infusion therapy
  • Personal training sessions
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (optional addition)

Our comprehensive OCD treatment program is specifically designed to treat all facets of the client: Medically, psychologically, and physically. It has been our experience that addressing physical health, through approaches like vitamin therapy, nutrition, exercise therapy and yoga greatly improves the chance of successful OCD remission. At the Delray Center, we couple holistic health services with psychiatric care and intensive therapy to provide our clients with the best possible treatment for their mental health.

Program participants attend clinical services at our mental health center in Delray Beach 5 days a week for a minimum of 8 weeks. Partial hospitalization programming can also be combined with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. TMS therapy is a revolutionary outpatient treatment for treating OCD, even in severe and treatment-resistant cases. TMS therapy works best when coupled with outpatient mental health programming that includes psychiatry and behavioral therapy.

Starting the OCD Partial Hospitalization Program

Every comprehensive OCD outpatient program is uniquely tailored to our client’s individual needs, meaning no two treatment plans are alike.
